Bingham Angus

This quiet-mannered, structurally correct bull carries a tremendous amount of muscle across his top and through his hind quarters. His dam is nice uddered and trouble-free. She keeps herself in good flesh year-round, whether she’s grazing on summer grass or brown wiregrass and broadleaf in December. A couple of her sons have sold at or near the top of our offering in past Basin Bull Sales.

Here’s another long, thick, straight-topped Duke son. He’s been a standout in the calf crop since birth. His dam and her maternal ancestors are all productive, trouble-free females. His mother also produced an outstanding OCC Epitome son that sold to Cory Abbot through the 2025 Basin Bull sale.

Our Hancock Duke sons are all thick. This one is the thickest. He’ll produce smaller-framed, deep-ribbed, easy-fleshing daughters with impeccable udders. His sons will have an impressive amount of muscle, just like he does. He will work on either cows or heifers. Reserving 1/3 semen interest on this bull.

This will be one of the better bulls we sell this year. Typical of the Duke sons, he’s laserbeam-straight and extremely wide on top and behind. His dam is the model of what a range cow should look like. She’s perfectly uddered and trouble-free in every respect. Her sire was a paternal half-brother to Papa Forte. This bull is herd sire material, but I would also not be afraid to use him on heifers.

Here’s a good thick Duke son that should work on either large heifers or cows. His daughters will be smaller-framed but thrifty and productive females. His steer calves will have power and thickness if they are anything like our first group of Duke sons.

Here’s another straight, thick Hancock Duke son out of a good uddered daughter of BAR Dark Canyon 09.

Here’s a good thick Duke son out of an impeccably made daughter of Evaluation 454. Click on this calf’s Maternal Grandsire link for more information on the Evaluation bull. He was born in 1968 and intrigued us enough that we bought an interest in the bull from Jeff Liston. If his daughters are all similar to this calf’s dam, we will be making a bunch of them.

Another long, straight-topped Hancock Duke son here. His dam is by Valentino L1. This bull, in turn, was out of an exceptional daughter of Shoshone Beuigan that my dad raised many years ago.

This calf was the outlier for birthweight in the Duke sire group. Even though he was bigger, he had plenty of pep and survivability at birth, though. He also had the highest 205-day weight in the Duke sire group. This bull will work fine on mature cows, and you’ll like the extra payweight in his calves. His dam is a good, productive cow. As you can see from the photo though, her teats are a little longer than the average in our herd. We’ve never had to touch one of her calves, so this is more of an aesthetic issue than a functional problem.

The Duke bull calves are all good. But there is a group within this sire group that have been standouts since birth. This calf is one of those. He’s long, straight, and thick. He’s also out of a very good dam. Take a look at her picture and tell me I’m wrong.

There’s some power in this Duke son, and he will put it in his calves. His dam, by Jauer 353 Traveler, has been a very productive cow here. (Side note: I need to thank Dr. Mark Dennis for helping us save his dam back when she was two years old. She fell through some pond ice and had hypothermia, which caused her to be paralyzed in her limbs and made her unable to burp up gas for a couple of days. Anyway, it was one of those tough situations that actually turned out good in the long run.)

I know I’m a broken record, but here’s another long, thick son of Hancock Duke. His dam is by Tail N Emulous 1456. (For you students of the Angus breed out there, 1456 was the maternal grandsire of Lovana, who was in turn, the sire of GDAR Rainmaker 340.) At one point, we had an Emulous breeding project going here and had several 1456 daughters in production. They’re not the fanciest uddered cows I’ve ever owned. They’ve all been very fertile and productive cows, though. They seem to have a little extra butter fat in their milk and bring in big shiney calves in the fall. We ultrasounded one 1456 son, and he scanned an exceptionally large amount of ribeye per 100 lbs of body weight.
